Section 1: Art Criticism Process-
Section 2: 8. What was the warm up/sketchbook assignment that you learned the most from? I think that the warm up that i learned the most from was the sign language “A.” I think this was the most helpful warmup of the class because it taught me how to draw what I saw, not what I knew, which was a skill I used everyday in the class. It was also the first time I learned how to shade, another skill I used almost everyday in the class. 10. Regardless of whether a project was successful or not, describe the one where you learned, grew, or developed the most from? The project I believe I learned the most from and also the project that helped me the most in the class is a drawing from the first project we did. I think I learned the most from this drawing of my water bottle because I learned how to draw highlights and shadows and how to draw using shapes and not colors, and how to make the drawing look like it is coming off the page. 18. Medium: which medium did you most enjoy working with and why? Which medium did you not use but wish you had explored?
I enjoyed working with watercolor very much because of the effect it makes. I really like how it can be used to create a realistic effect or a more abstract effect. The painting i did with watercolor turned out exactly the way I imagined it. A medium that I wish I had used is the oil pastels. I really like the way they look when other people use them, and how versatile they can be.

finished project detail shot How many different mediums and techniques did you use?
• First I ripped up blue and green tissue paper and used a matte medium and a paint brush to create the base. • Next I cut out a nap of the United States and drew a path in it. I also ripped out a map of Hawaii and used a matte medium and a paint brush to glue it to my tissue paper base. • Then I sponged on paint onto the map of Hawaii and also in some random spots. • After that I carved out a stamp of footprints into a linoleum block and stamped that on across the paper in white ink representing a journey • last I used a mix of matte medium and light blue paint to glue on a plant that I pressed in a textbook. What was your word and how did you portray it? My word was "Journey". I portrayed it by the path I drew on the map of the United States. The word journey is also represented in the footprints going across the page. detail shot Since completing the in-process blog post what has been your process since? Since the in progress blog post I have fired my piece twice and glazed it. What do you find successful about the finished piece? I find the fact that it didn't break successful. What would you have changed if you were to do it again? I would make it shorter and use different colors. in progress post finished piece Who did you do a portrait of? What is your relationship to them? My portrait is of riley. She is in my art class What medium did you use? I used cut paper Explain your process start to finish- First I projected the photo and traced it, then I used an app to help me choose what colors to use, then I cut the paper and glued it togeather. What do you find successful and what might you change if you were to complete it again? I think th colors go together very well, if I did this again I would choose a picture from a different angle. lips nose eye ear hair gesture drawing face proportions What warm up is proving to be the most helpful so far in your portrait piece? The face proportion has been the most helpful because I haven't had to draw anything yet in my project but I had to know where to put the prices of paper. I also think it will be the most helpful in other projects. What did you find most surprising about the facial proportions and why? The most surprising thing to me was how big the forehead is supposed to be because I've never drawn a forehead that big before.
sketch linoleum block final print how does your piece show off the theme of line? the water in my piece in made of just lines
how is your piece successful and what might you change if you were to do it again? I really like the way the sun looks in my print. If I were going to change one thing it would be making smaller/more lines in the water. I would also print it in a lighter blue color. in progress finished most helpful warmup (watercolor) most helpful warmup (perspective) what kind of perspective was used?
I used one point perspective in this piece about the picture: I took this picture over spring break in California last year. It was taken in Laguna Beach, CA what did you find difficult about the project? I found it very difficult to make the leaves of the trees look realistic as well as the trunk. how did the warmups help you? The watercolor warmup helped me learn how to layer colors and draw branches/leaves because my painting was of palm trees. The hallway helped me because it was one point perspective and so was my price and it helped make the trunks of the trees a proportional size. print-the impression created on a surface by the printing plate
inking-applying ink to the plate using a brayer transfer-the paper is pressed against the inked plate and the ink transfers to the paper edition-all the prints made from the same plate or set of plates relief printing-the artist cuts away the sections of a surface not meant to hold ink and the image that is being printed is raised from the background woodblock printing-making prints by carving images in blocks of wood Ando Hiroshige- He was a Japanese painter and printmaker born in Tokyo in 1797. He was initially going to be a fire warden, but then found his passion for painting and eventually printmaking. step 1- trace the outline of your shape on your linoleum block. Use a compass to find the middle of your block then draw the largest circle possible. Then draw your best design in the circle step 2- trace the finished design on tracing paper and transfer it to the linoleum using carbon paper step 3- use a dark marker to color the parts of your design that will not be cut away step 4- using a bench hook to hold your linoleum in place. Carve out your design using the v shaped gouge always carving away from you. Carve the circle last.
