Self Reflection
1. The watercolor techniques I used in this painting were wet on wet for the base layer, wet on dry for the layering, and dry brushing for the white highlights.
2. In my painting, using transparent layers was crucial because it was the best way for my artwork to come across as real grapefruit pulp 3. My composition was successful in this painting because I used the rule of thirds. My focal point is in the first third of the painting. 4. Color choice did not have much on the end result of my painting because it was based on the colors of a grapefruit, which cannot be changed if you want your painting to be realistic. 5. My knowledge of Georgia O'Keeffe inspired the zoomed-in composition of this piece. The composition is one of the central aspects of this painting. It would not be the same without the inspiration of Mrs. O'Keeffe's paintings. 6. My craftsmanship in this piece is very neat and controlled. I think I tried my best in this painting and am proud of my work. 7. I would question the techniques used because there is some bleeding on the painting's outer edges. 8. I would make the colors darker because if all of the colors were darker could've made darker shadows, and therefor the piece would be more realistic 9. I have learned a great deal about watercolor layering and all the different techniques that must be used to make watercolor look professional. |

Applying Pen Technique Mini-Assignment
One thing that I think was successful about this drawing is the texture of the fur lining. One thing that is unsuccessful is the proportions of the slipper. If I redid this drawing one thing I would change would probably draw a different object that does not have as many textures and shadows. Overall I would say this was a successful drawing.

Final Drawing
1. Explain the process you went through to develop your drawing.
The first step of developing my drawing was to walk around my house and find 3 things that would fit the theme of "Unseen Things." The second step was to take pictures of these 3 things with good composition. The third step was to sketch each of these drawing to see which one i should decide to do as my final sketch.
2. How important is composition to the success of your drawing?
Composition is extremely important to the success of my drawing. This is because a well composed drawing is more pleasing to the eye, therefore will bring more success to my drawing.
3. Explain how you found the different values in your object?
To find different values in the three different plants I had to closely observe how to light hit the leaves. I had to find there the leaves overlapped and where they were creating shadows on the bottom of the planter.
4. Did you achieve a full range of the different values within your drawing? How?
I would say yes, I did achieve a full range of the different values within your drawing. I used pencils of different hard and softness' and payed close attention to where i was drawing the shadows and where i was highlighting.
5. Describe your craftsmanship. Is the artwork executed and crafted neatly?
I am not that proud of my craftsmanship in this drawing. Although I felt like i was taking my time and drawing neatly there are still visible streaks.
6. How important was learning the skills and techniques prior to the final drawing?
Learning new skills about shading and value really helped me with this drawing. If i had not had those lessons this drawing out not be successful and this drawing would have appeared flat. Learning new techniques of shading, such as cross hatching and hatching, really helped as well.
7. How did you grow as an artist?
This assignment helped me grow as an artist because it taught me how to tae my time and create values in drawings. I am usually very rushed when i draw but this assignment really helped me see how taking your time can improve your craftsman’s ship.
8. List any obstacles you had to overcome and how you dealt with them.
One obstacle I faced was that after my first in progress photo i received feedback that my lines were too dark and that they needed to be created more by shadows. This caused me to have to re-start my drawing, but in the end it was a positive thing.

These are 5 forms with shading. I drew these to practice shading and drawing value and shadows.
This is a value scale to help with shading and to practice drawing different values with a pencil.
Online School Photo Series
This piece is a series of 3 black and white photos taken by me. These 3 photos represent online school. One example of line in these photos is in the first photo of the mug. The light coming through the window creates a shadow behind the mug and plant. The shadows draw your eye to those two items. Unity is represented in these photos due to the fact that they were all edited the same with the same black and white filter. The first photo is a picture of a coffee mug with the sun shining on it. This photo was taken early in the morning, before first period. This photo is meant to represent how shocking it was to some to wake up so early for school after months and months of no structure. The second photo is my younger brother sitting at his desk doing his online school. The third picture is a photo of my backpack. The backpack is empty and kind of slumped over, creating a sad mood. The photo is meant to represent how people are not leaving the house for school, for the first time ever. Overall, I think this series was successful. I think the pictures have variety and unity and represent the mood I was trying to get across. This assignment made me realize how you have to treat each subject you photograph differently.
Random Object Photo Composition
This assignment was to take 9 photos of the same object and make them all interesting. I used the rule of 3rds to compose the photos and make them interesting.
